Visit 1

Visit of Storage operated by Séché

« Our non-hazardous waste storage facility (ISDND) takes in all waste that cannot be recycled, with a dual mission : protecting the environment and producing energy.

Waste, once compacted, is installed in perfectly sealed cells, isolating the waste from the environment and in particular from groundwater. Liquid effluents, known as leachate, are pumped, stored and treated before being released.

Waste is partly composed of organic matter which,as it degrades naturally produces methane. We collect this biogas and transform it into bio methane which is injected directly into the gas network. »

Visit 2

Visit of waterproofing materials by IKO-AXTER

The IKO-AXTER plant in Courchelettes, in northern France, specialises in the manufacture of waterproofing materials for roofing and civil engineering structures. One production line is entirely dedicated to Coletanche® bituminous geomembranes, designed specifically for civil engineering and major works. One of their distinctive features is their exceptional width of 5.10 metres, offering unique advantages in terms of installation.

Part of the IKO Group, a world leader in construction and civil engineering, the Courchelettes site benefits from internationally recognised expertise.

NYRSTAR_Manufacturer of zinc, lead and other metals

Located in Auby since 1869, the NYRSTAR site processes ores to produce zinc. The zinc is refined through a hydrometallurgical process and by electrolysis. The Auby smelter produces cathodes as finished products, rather than casting into ingots. The production capacity exceeds 180,000 tons of zinc per year. The facility operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the site covers 138 hectares, of which 54 hectares are occupied by ponds lined with various types of geosynthetics.

The G5 pond was constructed in 1995. In its initial years of operation, it experienced sealing deficiencies that necessitated reinforcement of its protection against wave action. A second sealing reinforcement was undertaken in 2015, involving divers operating in acidic waters (pH = 3). In 2025, a first phase of partial waterproof covering is being implemented. The waterproof coverings of ponds G2 and G3, completed in 2012, are also visible on site.
